One definition of a friend is, “A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts, “ whereas true is, “Genuine, reliable, faithful”. So lets put that together and we get that a true friend is a “Genuine, reliable, and faithful person whom we know, like and trust.” Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Sounds soooo good that I think I want to be somebody’s true friend! In fact, I wouldn’t mind being a whole bunch of people’s true friend! J Seriously though, I hope that I am just that to at least one other person as I know that I have more then one true friend myself. So this blog is dedicated to you true friends out there – I don’t need to mention your names cause you already know who you are.
Now I have had some trouble coming up with my own personal definition of a true friend cause its hard to separate them from my “just friends”. For those of you that have ever been around me during the holidays you will know that I spend a couple hours just calling friends & family to wish them well on that day. It seems like the least I can do for the many people that have helped enrich my own life. So, what separates some from others? Perhaps it’s the true friends that are the ones who stick by your side no matter what stupid shit you do, they are the ones that can tell you things you don't want to tell yourself. They accept us as we are yet help us to be what we should. I have a few friends of late that have gone out of their way to help me, not by moving items or loaning me money, but making efforts to make sure I am happy in life. Even though I sometimes know the right path to take I avoid it, I’m not sure why but I think that maybe I feel that I don’t deserve it. Why should I be happy when there are millions who suffer from disease, fear, or oppression? It is those select few that step in and say “you deserve better, you are a great person, and we are going to help you as best as we can”. Arnold Glasow once quoted, “A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down.” Well, I was going down and I wanted to say thanks to those of you that helped catch me. While it was my own duty to swim back to shore, I couldn’t have done it without your life preserver. I think it was your perseverance that helped delay my decision long enough for something miraculous to occur, something that I have waited for a long time to happen. She is “the one who makes life come to life” and I have it to my true friends to thank for helping that happen and being there when I needed you the most. Perhaps a blip from Winnie the Pooh says it best, “Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh!" he whispered. "Yes, Piglet?" "Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you."
