True Friends

One definition of a friend is, “A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts, “ whereas true is, “Genuine, reliable, faithful”. So lets put that together and we get that a true friend is a “Genuine, reliable, and faithful person whom we know, like and trust.” Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Sounds soooo good that I think I want to be somebody’s true friend! In fact, I wouldn’t mind being a whole bunch of people’s true friend! J Seriously though, I hope that I am just that to at least one other person as I know that I have more then one true friend myself. So this blog is dedicated to you true friends out there – I don’t need to mention your names cause you already know who you are.

Now I have had some trouble coming up with my own personal definition of a true friend cause its hard to separate them from my “just friends”. For those of you that have ever been around me during the holidays you will know that I spend a couple hours just calling friends & family to wish them well on that day. It seems like the least I can do for the many people that have helped enrich my own life. So, what separates some from others? Perhaps it’s the true friends that are the ones who stick by your side no matter what stupid shit you do, they are the ones that can tell you things you don't want to tell yourself. They accept us as we are yet help us to be what we should. I have a few friends of late that have gone out of their way to help me, not by moving items or loaning me money, but making efforts to make sure I am happy in life. Even though I sometimes know the right path to take I avoid it, I’m not sure why but I think that maybe I feel that I don’t deserve it. Why should I be happy when there are millions who suffer from disease, fear, or oppression? It is those select few that step in and say “you deserve better, you are a great person, and we are going to help you as best as we can”. Arnold Glasow once quoted, “A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down.” Well, I was going down and I wanted to say thanks to those of you that helped catch me. While it was my own duty to swim back to shore, I couldn’t have done it without your life preserver. I think it was your perseverance that helped delay my decision long enough for something miraculous to occur, something that I have waited for a long time to happen. She is “the one who makes life come to life” and I have it to my true friends to thank for helping that happen and being there when I needed you the most. Perhaps a blip from Winnie the Pooh says it best, “Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh!" he whispered. "Yes, Piglet?" "Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you."

Definition of Soulmate

The ancient philosopher Plato is most commonly associated with creating the notion of “soulmates”. In his play Symposium he basically states that in the beginning of time there was only one human (both a male & a female) and it was split in two to create man & woman. It states, “Each of us when separated, having one side only... is but indenture of a man, and he is always looking for his other half." Thus, creating the origins that all persons have an “other half” that they are looking for… their soulmate.

While I am not necessarily agreeing that we are “incomplete” without our soulmate I do think that they are a soul's ideal counterpart, which must be found for true happiness and fulfillment. A soul mate is a complement to oneself. One reading poetically describes it as "the tongue to the groove, the tenon to the mortise..." It is more than merely a physical attraction; it is a capacity to help each other at the physical, mental, and spiritual levels. What are you looking for in a soulmate? You look for someone with whom you can feel at home. You look for someone who will understand you and give you what you want and need. You look for an extraordinary sense of recognition, connection and attraction. I personally find the eyes, body and the sound of one's voice to be the most telling indicator of a soulmate. The eyes are so familiar and seem to 'see' into our very soul... having the ability to know us without knowing us. There is also something very familiar (almost haunting) about the sound of their voice. There is the look, feel and movement of the body. It is a feeling of being with an old friend...like you just saw each other yesterday, as if time had never passed from the last time you were together. You get this immediate feeling of comfort (or even discomfort) upon being around them or looking into their eyes, or speaking with them. For those of you that have never felt it, there is no way to describe it… but I can guarantee you will just know it when you experience it.

The movie “What Dreams May Come” is an excellent example of soulmates in action. Here are two people who meet on an off chance in a foreign country and recognize their connection. No matter where they go from their they will always "be together". If you haven’t seen this movie and you believe in the soulmates theory then you need to go check it out. I think that Richard Back does an excellent job of describing it in more detail... "A soulmate is someone who has the locks to fit our keys, and the keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we; we can be loved for who we are and for who we're pretending to be. Each of us unveils the best part of one another. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person were safe in our paradise. Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we're two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we've found the right person. Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life."

Neat Poems

I thought this poem was so wonderful that i had to post it :)
--------------
The fist love is never to be forgotten
The memories span a lifetime
The innocence so sweet
The emotions so new
It leaves an imprint on our hearts that can never be erased.
Like the first scetches of a great masterpiece,
It is the foundation,
The first building blocks of love so great,
Yet it is the greatest,
More wonderful in its purity
Something beyond compare.
What do you do when you turn around and your first love asks you to dance?
--------------

The question at the end made me think a little and ultimatly it reminded me of another poem ....
--------------
As we waltz past the mirrored walls in dance
I glance into the mirror and see, perchance
A couple that looks exactly like you and me
Dancing in the mirror in perfect harmony
Slow dance with me in the mirrored place
So I can look over your shoulder and see my face
Reflecting my smile as I try to keep pace
And still my heart which starts to race

Your gentle, yet protective, hand upon my waist

We turn toward each other and I see your face

Cinderella and Prince Charming reflected in our gaze

Two people suspended beyond time and space

The only two dancers in the crowded place

Two separate beings, yet filling only one space

Please still my heart if it should start to race

As I dance with you in the mirrored place

Rambling thoughts

I have to admit... I am just completely bored out of my skull. So, after reading all the news, catching up on all the Dilbert comics for the month, and reading my daily Sherman's Lagoon, I have decided to write another blog :) Not sure what this is going to be on so I am just going to put down all my rambling thoughts -- kinda like in elementary school where you were supposed to write but keep writing no matter what even if it was something totally random. So, here we go.

Jezzball... yup so bored I played jezzball for about an hour. High Score thus far, 250k on level 11. There are people who are better but I am the best I know of at this point in time... HAHAHAHHA!!! Come fools! Try to beat the jezzball jedi master!

Dragons. Not sure where that came from. Ok, it actually came from my background on the computer - its got a dragon on it. See, I have two monitors for my computer so I can write on one screen and watch another, and this time I have nothing on my left screen so I can see a dragon. BRB, gotta resond to Robyn & Libby's IM's :)

Gotta pee. I know, kinda disturbing to put on a blog but its true. I think I may be too lazy to get up though, just gonna have to hold it. Thank god for being a guy, at least we can tie it in a knot to give us a little extra time before it becomes and emergency.

Hmm... mind is blank... Hitchiker's guide to the galaxy! Watched that again last night, even though it took like 3days to finish cause Steph kept getting up to do things, lol. **SLAP** Ahhh! Got slapped in the face! Don't think anything.... no ideas..... **SLAP** AHH!! Dammit!! K, one more time... no ide...**SLAP** Shit! Damn Brain! **SLAP** FUCK!!!**SLAP** DAMMIT!!! **SLAP**

K... I'm done... gonna go work, at least that way I won't get slapped anymore.
